My Farmtrac 60

There it is, our Farmtrac 60. The tractor is a simple and small tractor by today's standards.

If you have a small farm of any size then you probabably will want to buy a tractor. For first time buyers, the buying guide to the right will probably be very handy.

I bought my tractor because of it's simplicity. The nearly 50 horsepower Farmtrac 60 is produced by Escorts in India which is somewhere behind Mahindra and TAFE in tractor sales in the Indian Subcontinent. The tractor is a clone of the Ford 3920 which was sold in Asia...and not here in North America as far as I can tell. Unfortunately for myself and other Farmtrac owners here in the US the company went out of business in 2008. So, I and many others own "orphan" tractors...tractors with limited support from the manufacturer. Parts are available for the Indian tractors and for the Korean tractors formerly sold by the now defunct Long Agribuisiness based out of Tarboro, NC...just up the road from my home.

Looking past my own Farmtrac woes, it is clear, the tractor has helped tranform agriculture and has "liberated" people from the "drudgery" that existed before people with names like Ford, Massey, Harris, Ferguson and many A Montana Limited 555...a rebadged Farmtrac 60others revolutionized agriculture. The tractor replaced many people on the farm with its ability to provide to provide on site power for plowing, mowing, tilling and threshing large parcels of land compared with what could be done by had or with horses or other draft animals. Good or bad the tractor has made it's mark and if you are small landowner like me it is likely you own a tractor of some sort. If not, you are probably thinking about owning one.

I won't make any recommendation on what type of tractor to purchase...there are to many options to mention here and each person's requirement is different. I have, however, provided in the "News from Around the World" column to the left stories from accross the world ranging from a video of a demonstration of a "walking tractor" to a short article about antique market tractors. I hope the you find the information interesting.

For my fellow Farmtrac 60 owners, The Farmtrac 60 Page, is just a click away (see above) and as in the past all of the manuals or excerpts are free. If you have a question about tractors or my Farmtrac 60 please send an email to jim@redbayfarm.com .
