Red Bay Farm Ten Year Plan
Produced with the help of the North Carolina Forest Stewardship Program

In June of 2007 we met with Paul and Deanna,  a forester and biologist
managing the Forest Stewardship program in eastern North Carolina.  The
resulting 24 page plan is tailored to our objectives and provides the steps we
need to take over the next 10 years to reach those objectives.
North Carolina's Forest Stewardship Program provides free assistance to landowners.  Just visit the
Forest Stewardship website to sign up for the program.  The whole process takes between 6 months
    and a year to complete.

By developing a forest stewardship plan you will not only learn how to improve your forest but you
may be able to qualify for "present use" tax rates versus "best use (development)" tax rates.

Current use tax rates will provide a significant savings to the landowner and will help reduce overhead
costs.   Click here to read about North Carolina’s Forestry Present-Use Property Tax Program which
explains how the program works in North Carolina.  Other states have similar programs.  Our property
has been in a present use status for over 15 years.  Investing a little time and energy can yield very
significant tax savings and help preserve property that would otherwise be lost to development.

Below are overhead pictures of the 38 acre Red Bay Farm and the 7 acre Lone Cypress Tracts.  Below
the overheads are copies of checklists from our management plan which gives a year by year
checklist of actions necessary to meet our objectives.
